Kyoto Brand Products Association
Kyoto has inherited a food culture that spans over a long history and has been refined over the years. It is a culture made possible by the climate unique to the region as well as the farmers and the chefs who have nurtured the ingredients. In order to protect and promote these valuable ingredients of Kyoto cuisine, the Kyoto Brand Products Association started the “Kyoto Brand Products” project in 1989 (Heisei 1). In addition to supporting “Kyoto-like” products, the association also values food safety. There are currently 31 items, mainly Kyoto vegetables, which have been certified and distributed with the “Kyoto Mark”. Each of the products is carefully selected based on its quality, form, and the production area, and they go under strict examination by the “Kyoto Commitment Production Certification System”, which values product safety and environmental impact. In addition, the association is engaged in various activities with the aim to let people all over Japan know about the allures of “Kyoto Brand Products” as well as Kyoto’s food culture.
